Animal Rescues

By Linda Spurlin

My life has always included animals. Besides being guardian of several cats, dogs, and horses, I also work with other volunteers in animal rescue. Our cat group's goal started out to be simply a spay/neuter group, but somehow our members usually have a few cats in garages and basements that nobody wanted and we couldn't bear to see them starving on the streets.

We have fundraisers in order to offer gift certificates to offset the cost of spay/neuter. Our little group has helped over 300 cats get fixed in the nearly two years we have been in existence. And sadly enough, its hardly a drop in the bucket.

Ten percent of any products sold with an ordinary cat on it will be donated to my local cat rescue group.

In addition we are beginning the Purrcatso Series.

Though Purrcatso is a real live cat, residing in Chewelah, Washington, in our eyes he is anything but ordinary. Purrcatso was saved from death by the goodness of strangers as a young kitten. He was too weak to walk, or to even swallow, when his rescuers came to his aid. A local veterinarian taught his rescuer how to tube feed the weakened kitten, and with food, patience, antiobotics and love, within days Purrcatso was on the road to recovery.

Today, Purrcatso lives the life of kitty luxury with his mistress and family, which also includes other rescued cats. He sleeps on his human's bed and watches over her while she works on the computer. Purrcatso is never far away from the loving hands that rescued him.

Why the name Purrcatso? Purrcatso earned his name when his 'rescuer turned owner' put ink on his paws and had him autograph her computerized catwork graphics. Purrcatso is now a feline Picasso! Purrcatso's artwork and photos will be sold to help prevent other cats from suffering as he did as a kitten. 50% of any Purrcatso item sold will be donated to Stevens County Cat Care, a local not-for-profit spay/neuter group in Stevens County in Washington state.

If you are interested in larger quantities of products for resale for your animal rescue group, please contact me about lower prices. Your group's name and information can also be put on them. I will help all I can.

In addition to cat rescue, I write occasional animal articles for two local newspapers to help encourage people to spay/neuter and to hopefully view the dog chained in their backyard in a different light. Some of my articles are included here for your amusement and the education of others. If anyone would like to reprint them for their own use, please contact me so I can hear how it turns out. Also please change the phone numbers and name of the cat group first! I also do brochures, logo work, labels and cards.
